BC schools are both large and small and have student populations ranging from 13– 1550 children. Students are aged 5 – 19 years and they come from varied socio-economic-cultural backgrounds. Public, private, elementary, middle and secondary, schools are included in the mix. The schools are located in urban and rural, locations – both on reserve and off. The farms are for the most part small scale, producing primarily fruit and vegetables. Most farms are located within 100 miles of the school. Production practices are both organic and conventional. All schools are building/solidifying partnerships with representatives of local food action networks or community food security initiatives. In many cases a representative from the public health sector (such as a community nutritionist or a community food security lead) has taken on a supportive role to help establish those links. All schools and farms are located in communities within the northern and interior health regions of BC
