Farm to Cafeteria, Mar 19-21, Portland Or

Posted on Thursday 12 March 2009

Hi all Will any BC Folks be attending the Conference in Oregon - www.farmtocafeteriaconference.com? It promises to be an informative and exciting event bringing farm to school champions from across the US and Canada together to plan and share process, programs, policy and politics. If so - perhaps we can connect? Send me a note here.

School Year Gardens

Wow!  Check out “School Year Gardens: A toolkit for high schools to grow food from September to June”.  http://www.richmondfruittree.com/Toolkit.pdf This is an  incredible new resource developed right here in BC to assist schools planning, promoting, growing, harvesting foods on school grounds. I love the “Why Local?”section and the lesson plans! While it was produced in an urban and southern location, there are many applications for  rural, remote and more northern communities.  Enjoy!  And have a look in our” Rresources” section on the website for additional resources. They are arriving like popcorn!

BC Farm to School Salad Bar Guide

Posted on Monday 15 December 2008

Hello Sandi,We are creating our very own BC Farm To School Salad Bar Guide! This “how to” resource will illustrate and describe ways to plan, implement, evaluate and sustain a Farm to School Salad Bar program - a program that can include all children in any school and in any community. Like the Toronto manual, it will be colourful and user friendly and it will contain loads of ideas, tools and links.  The difference will be that our manual will include a big focus on the “farm” - with a buying into local theme and tips and tools for engaging farmers. Another big difference will be a focus on  creating a program in aboriginal communities. We plan to have this ready for distribution by June 2009. Stay tuned!

Salad Bar in Schools Food Share Field to Table

Posted on Monday 15 December 2008

I have copied this entire book and it is a great resource. If you haven’t had a chance to look over it I suggest you do. There are a number of things that are great such as menus and recipes and some of the forms and evaluations. I will certainly be using it as a guide when I do my final evaluation. Thanks for the heads up on this resource Joanne.Sandi Slizak
